Webinar: Rural Health Travel Nursing Challenges

When:  Nov 12, 2026 from 12:00 to 13:00 (CT)

Rural hospitals continue to face significant workforce shortages, increasing turnover, and rising labor costs that place additional strain on already limited resources. This webinar will explore the evolving economics of permanent versus travel staffing and examine how rural healthcare organizations can make more strategic workforce decisions to support operational stability and patient care.

Using findings from KPMG’s 2025 U.S. Nursing, Allied Health and Therapy Labor Costs Study, participants will gain insight into the fully loaded costs associated with permanent staffing, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, attrition, and non-productive time. The session will also discuss how travel staffing can serve as a flexible and cost-effective strategy for rural and critical access hospitals, particularly during staffing shortages, seasonal fluctuations, and periods of increased demand.

Attendees will leave with a practical framework for evaluating staffing models, optimizing labor dollars, and building a balanced workforce strategy that supports both financial sustainability and quality patient care in rural settings.
