Joplin's Adult Education program has revised its curriculum approach so that the program can be completed in less than six months. Enrollments are open now for the new session that begins August 6, 2025. Enrolling students need to have a high school diploma or equivalent to enroll in the program. Clinical and classroom time will occur in Joplin and the surrounding areas, however living in the Joplin region is not a prerequisite to enroll or attend this updated 25-week dental assisting course.
Students completing the course are eligible to receive a National Entry Level Dental Assistant (NELDA) certification by passing the certification test required by the Dental Assisting National Board.
Average starting salaries for new entry-level dental assistants range from $18 - $25 per hour, and Joplin's adult education program has a waiting list of dental offices who want to hire graduates of the program.
The attached flyer includes information about the program. Enrollment questions can be directed to NathanFent@joplinschools.org.
